In 2021, the Hellenic American Leadership Council celebrated the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution of 1821 with an online series on philhellenism. As The National Herald noted when the series launched in the beginning of the year:

the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) is teaming up with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies, the Embassy of Greece in the United States, the Consulate General of Greece in Chicago, and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago to present a four-part series titled Philhellenism through the Ages.

This series of discussions will explore the influence of Hellenic culture from antiquity to the present, and will look at the role Philhellenism played in the formation of the modern Greek state.

If you missed the series, you can catch up on the discussions below.

Washington, D.C. — Today, in commemoration of the 47th anniversary of Turkey’s invasion of the Republic of Cyprus and following Turkish President Erdogan’s move to illegally reopen Varosha Beach in violation of international law, Representative Chris Pappas (NH-01) issued the following statement:

“Nearly five decades have passed…

Yesterday, Turkish President Erdogan visited Varosha, Cyprus on the 47th anniversary of Turkey’s invasion of the island nation. In response, Representative Gus Bilirakis condemned Erdogan’s actions on the floor of the United States House of Representatives. “His presence was a deliberate and provocative move that demonstrates the absolute insanity of how, in the 21st century, a NATO ally can continue to illegally and militarily occupy an EU nation,” said Congressman Bilirakis.
